General Description: Sculpture 1 is an introductory course focused on the creation of three-dimensional artwork using a variety of media and techniques. Students will explore the fundamentals of 3D art and will create a variety of sculptures using materials such as paper, wire, plaster, foam, and more. The course covers the elements of art and principles of design while encouraging creativity and experimentation. Students should be prepared to work with various materials and textures in a hands-on, collaborative environment.

Content: 

  • Materials may include: plaster, papier-mâché, foam, wire, soap, found objects, and more
  • Hands-on projects
  • Experimentation with different media and surface texture techniques
  • Study and analysis of professional sculpture work
  • Reflection and critique on personal and peer artwork

Homework: Minimal homework; students may need to complete initial brainstorming or reflections outside of class if additional time is needed.
