Learning Recommendations: Successful completion of Sculpture 1 or prior experience with ceramics and sculpture.

General Description: Sculpture 2 is designed for students who have completed Sculpture 1 and are ready to advance their skills in three-dimensional art. This course allows students to explore more complex techniques and concepts, building upon their foundational knowledge. Students will create a variety of 3D sculptures using materials such as paper, wire, plaster, foam, clay, and more, with opportunities for wheel throwing. The course emphasizes problem-solving, creative design, and artistic critique.

Content: 

  • Exploration of advanced sculptural techniques and media
  • Complex, concept-based projects using various materials
  • Wheel throwing, hand-building, and mixed media projects
  • Critiques, design development, and reflections on completed work
  • Study of historical and contemporary sculpture and sculptors

Homework: Students may need to complete initial brainstorming or planning outside of class if additional time is required.
