General Description: Theatre Arts 1 introduces students to a broad range of theatre concepts, with a primary focus on acting and performance. Students will explore acting techniques, improvisation, theatre history, directing, design, and ensemble building. The course emphasizes both individual and collaborative work, helping students build self-expression skills and theatrical knowledge. Attendance at Skyline Drama Productions is required for all students unless they are involved in the production.

Content: 

  • Performer’s warm-up exercises
  • Acting techniques and improvisation
  • Theatre history (Eastern and Western traditions)
  • Directing and design
  • The International Phonetic Alphabet and accents
  • Pantomime, monologues, and scene development
  • Ensemble building and theatrical traditions

Homework: Students are required to attend Skyline Drama Productions and complete assignments related to scene work, performances, and project-based learning activities. Homework may involve preparing for performances or working on design projects.
