General Description: Theatre Arts 1 introduces students to the foundational skills of acting and theatre production. This course covers physical and vocal exercises, theatre games, monologue work, and script analysis. Students will also explore early theatre history, focusing on Ancient Greece, Asian traditions, and early European theatre. The course is designed to develop students' confidence in performing and their ability to work as part of an ensemble.

Content: 

  • Physical and vocal exercises
  • Theatre history (Ancient Greece, Asian traditions, early European theatre)
  • Script analysis for performance
  • Monologue preparation and performance
  • Introduction to acting techniques and stage composition

Homework: Students will have occasional reading assignments, and will need to memorize scenes and monologues. While ample class time is provided, some work may need to be completed outside of class.
