General Description: Students will be introduced to a formal system of financial-record management for proprietorships and partnerships. Students will also study accounting vocabulary, the relationship between accounting and business, and the accounting cycle for service business organized as proprietorship. Accounting software will be used to enter transactions and create financial reports. A business simulation is used at the end of the semester to aid students in synthesizing and applying their learning.

  • Accounting for Sales and Cash Receipts
  • Accounting for Transactions Using a General Journal
  • Preparing Payroll Records
  • Payroll, Accounting, Taxes and Reports
  • Accounting for Uncollectable Accounts Receivable
  • Preparing Adjusting Entries and a Trial Balance
  • Financial Statements and Closing Entries for a Corporation
  • Financial Statement Analysis

Homework: Students can expect approximately 20-30 minutes of homework on a daily basis or 100-150 minutes per week.

Note: 

  • All students enrolled will have DECA membership provided, students may choose to participate in DECA events at the local, state and national level. If students choose to participate in these events, additional costs will be incurred.
