Learning Recommendations: Sales & Marketing 1

General Description: This course focuses on the strategic role of marketing programs in generating revenue in the sports and entertainment industry. Through the application of specific marketing tools, students will gain the necessary skills to: Identify revenue-generating opportunities; develop criteria to compare and analyze alternatives; make strategically sound business decisions

Students will also develop a thorough understanding of marketing concepts and theories which apply to this industry.

Content: Specific content will include:

  • Special forms of sponsorship
  • Sports branding
  • Athlete management
  • Globalization
  • Media involvement
  • Fantasy sports
  • Sports vendors
  • Sports innovations
  • Elements needed in event marketing plans
  • Other emerging issues in the event marketing industry

Homework: Students may expect to be assigned homework related to their chosen DECA event. Time spent on homework will vary based on tasks required to complete DECA event tasks.

Course Fees / Materials: Course fees may apply.

Note: 

  • All students are provided DECA membership and may choose to take an active role in DECA conferences. These conferences provide students with the opportunity to travel and meet students from Washington State and throughout the United States. If students choose to participate in these events, additional costs will be incurred.
