General Description: English Language Development: Emerging is designed for intermediate Multilingual Learners, building on foundational skills to enhance fluency and comprehension in English. This course emphasizes the development of more complex reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, preparing students for greater academic success and social engagement.

Content: 

  • Advanced listening and speaking practice to improve fluency and comprehension in academic settings
  • Expanded reading skills with a focus on comprehension, vocabulary, and inferential thinking
  • Instruction in grammar, including complex sentence structures and varied verb tenses
  • Writing practice emphasizing paragraph development, coherence, and clarity
  • Exploration of U.S. cultural topics to deepen understanding and facilitate social integration

Homework: Moderate including reading assignments, vocabulary work, and writing exercises.
