Honors Literary Analysis & Composition 1 (Block) - EN110A/B

Learning Recommendations: It is strongly recommended that students considering this course have at least a B+ in their current English class. This course is taught in a block with Honors World History (Block).

General Description: This year-long course is based on the curriculum for English 9 but is designed for students seeking further challenges. It involves reading additional and more complex literature and undertaking extensive and sophisticated writing assignments. Students will be expected to work well both in groups and independently.

Content: This course is aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards for English Language Arts and covers: 

  • Skills such as reading comprehension, vocabulary building, informational/expository reading, understanding the author's purpose, and recognizing literary devices.
  • Writing skills developed through the use of multiple drafts, editing, collaborative scoring, and employing varied audiences and voices.
  • Exploration of different forms, genres, and organizational structures.

Homework: Students can expect an average of 150-225 minutes of homework per week, varying based on class content and due dates.
