Learning Recommendations: Individualized Education Program (IEP) Required; Case Manager Recommendation. Registration in this course is determined by IEP team. 

General Description: This course is designed for students in grades 9-12 to develop practical skills in reading, writing, and oral expression in a smaller, more personalized setting. The curriculum uses high-interest, low-vocabulary materials to generate writing experiences and includes the textbook Edge by National Geographic, supplemented with high-interest magazines, novels, and videos. This class fulfills the graduation requirements for English.

Content: 

  • Students will focus on practical skills related to reading comprehension, writing mechanics, personal communication, and written expression.
  • The course will utilize the Edge textbook along with activities relevant to real-world applications, preparing students for life as adults.

Homework: Homework expectations will be aligned with the individual needs and goals specified in each student's IEP, ensuring that assignments are appropriate and manageable.
