Learning Recommendations: Teacher permission is required. This course is designed for students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP); Case Manager Recommendation is also required.

General Description: This year-long course is designed to help 9th-grade students develop their skills in reading and written language through real-world projects and examples. Emphasis is placed on reading comprehension, writing mechanics, personal communications, and written expression. The curriculum uses the textbook Edge by National Geographic, supplemented with high-interest magazines, novels, and videos. This class fulfills the graduation requirements for English.

Content: 

  • Students will focus on enhancing their reading and writing skills.
  • Key areas include reading comprehension, vocabulary building, writing mechanics, personal communication, and written expression.
  • The course will also use high-interest materials to engage students and provide practical applications for the skills being learned.

Homework: Homework expectations will be based on the individual needs and goals specified in each student's IEP, ensuring assignments are appropriate and manageable.
