Functional Literacy 2 - EN240A/B

Learning Recommendations: Individualized Education Program (IEP) required; Case Manager recommendation; Resource students are assigned to classes on the basis of their own choices and with recommendations of resource teachers and parents. The IEP sets forth a plan of goals and objectives, which specifies accommodations and services necessary to meet the students’ needs.

General Description: This course builds on the skills developed in Functional Literacy 1, focusing on practical reading, writing, and language abilities necessary for everyday life. Instruction is individualized to support each student’s needs, with an emphasis on real-world applications to promote independence and effective communication.

Content May Include: 

  • Advanced functional reading comprehension and vocabulary
  • Practical writing for personal and professional communication
  • Completing forms, applications, and workplace documents
  • Strengthening written expression
  • Everyday communication and problem-solving skills
