Functional Literacy 3 - EN340A/B

Learning Recommendations: Individualized Education Program (IEP) required; Case Manager recommendation; Resource students are assigned to classes on the basis of their own choices and with recommendations of resource teachers and parents. The IEP sets forth a plan of goals and objectives, which specifies accommodations and services necessary to meet the students’ needs.

General Description: This course continues to develop practical reading, writing, and language skills essential for everyday life. Building on the foundations of Functional Literacy 1 and 2, students focus on refining their communication abilities for personal, academic, and workplace settings. Instruction is individualized to meet each student's needs and promote greater independence.

Content May Include: 

  • Enhanced reading comprehension for real-world texts
  • Writing for workplace and daily communication needs
  • Completing complex forms, applications, and written requests
  • Verbal and written communication strategies for independence
