Learning Recommendations: Teacher permission is required. This course is designed for students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP); Case Manager Recommendation is also required.

General Description: This year-long course is designed for 11th-grade students to develop their skills in reading and written language using real-world projects and examples. Emphasis is placed on reading comprehension, writing mechanics, personal communication, and written expression. The curriculum utilizes the textbook Edge by National Geographic, supplemented with high-interest magazines, novels, and videos. Students will learn through real-world projects and examples tailored to their individual needs and goals as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). The course will offer a supportive environment with a focus on individual student needs. This class fulfills the graduation requirements for English.

Content: Students will focus on enhancing their reading and writing skills, covering areas such as:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Writing mechanics
  • Personal communication
  • Written expression
  • The course uses high-interest materials to engage students and provide practical applications for the skills being learned. 

Homework: Homework expectations will be aligned with the individual needs and goals specified in each student's IEP, ensuring assignments are appropriate and manageable.
