Learning Recommendations: Individualized Education Program (IEP) required; Case Manager recommendation; Resource students are assigned to classes on the basis of their own choices and with recommendations of resource teachers and parents. The IEP sets forth a plan of goals and objectives, which specifies accommodations and services necessary to meet the students’ needs.

General Description: As the final course in the Functional Literacy sequence, this class focuses on applying practical reading, writing, and communication skills for independent living and employment. Students refine their ability to navigate real-world situations through individualized instruction tailored to their specific needs and goals.

Content May Include: 

  • Advanced reading comprehension for workplace and daily life
  • Writing emails, letters, and reports for professional and personal use
  • Effective verbal and written communication for independence
