General Description: Mandarin Chinese 2 builds upon the skills learned in Chinese 1, advancing students' ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This year-long course aims to enhance proficiency in everyday conversations and cultural understanding. Students will expand their ability to express themselves in various topics, such as family, daily life, and the environment, while also exploring Chinese culture, history, and art.

Content:

  • Communication: Conversing about family, friends, daily routines, shopping, transportation, and more.
  • Cultures: Exploration of customs, traditions, and historical practices in Chinese-speaking communities.
  • Comparisons: Understanding cultural and linguistic differences.
  • Connections: Applying language skills to other academic disciplines.
  • Communities: Using Chinese in multilingual contexts.

Homework: Students should expect to spend 1-2 hours per week on homework, with 15-20 minutes of daily study to reinforce language skills.
