Learning Recommendations: Successful completion of Mandarin Chinese 2 or teacher approval.

General Description: Mandarin Chinese 3 continues to develop students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Chinese. This course focuses on improving communication skills in everyday situations and exploring Chinese culture, history, and art. Communication between students and the teacher will be conducted primarily in Chinese. By the end of the course, students will be able to engage in more complex conversations, give extended information about themselves and others, and interact confidently in various real-life contexts.

Content:

  • Communication: Engaging in conversations about school life, education, dating, food, jobs, and travel.
  • Cultures: Exploring customs, history, and artistic traditions in Chinese-speaking communities.
  • Comparisons: Understanding cultural and linguistic differences.
  • Connections: Applying language skills to other academic disciplines.
  • Communities: Using Chinese in multilingual and cultural settings.

Homework: Students should expect to spend 2-3 hours per week on homework, including review and practice outside of class.
