Learning Recommendations: Grade 9: C or better in middle school Language Arts class. Grades 10-12: C or better recommended in English class.

General Description: Spanish 1 is a yearlong course that introduces students to the Spanish language and the culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Students will develop foundational skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, focusing on everyday topics. Instruction will be primarily in Spanish, with limited use of English to support comprehension of more complex structures. The course will also explore cultural connections and comparisons to deepen students' understanding of the Spanish-speaking world.

Content:

  • Vocabulary: Everyday topics such as family, school, food, and hobbies.
  • Grammar: Basic sentence structures, verb conjugations (present tense), and essential grammatical rules.
  • Culture: Introduction to Spanish-speaking countries and their cultural practices.
  • Communication: Develop basic conversational skills for asking and answering questions, giving descriptions, and discussing daily life.

Homework: Students should expect to spend approximately 1-2 hours per week on homework, which will include vocabulary memorization, grammar exercises, and online workbook assignments.
