Learning Recommendations: C or higher in Japanese 2. Strong independent study skills are recommended, as Japanese 3 may be combined with Japanese 4.

General Description: Japanese 3 is a year-long continuation of Japanese 2 that extends vocabulary, kanji, and grammatical knowledge. The course involves a deeper study of Japanese language and culture, preparing students for higher proficiency levels. Communication between students and teachers will be conducted almost exclusively in Japanese. Daily homework, good attendance, and active participation are key to success. Students will also have the option to take the SAT II, AP Japanese, or the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at their own expense.

  • Giving and understanding directions
  • Japanese cuisine
  • Japanese high school life
  • Japanese folk tales
  • Japanese architecture and housing
  • Transportation in Japan

Homework: Students should expect to spend approximately 2-3 hours per week on homework, including worksheets, vocabulary study, kanji practice, and projects.
