Spanish 3 CHS (College in the High School - UW Spanish 103) - FO630A/B

Learning Recommendations: B+ or higher in Spanish 2; or B or higher in Spanish 3. 

General Description: Spanish 3 CHS is an advanced-level course where students have the opportunity to earn both high school and optional college credit. This course deepens students' language skills through challenging exercises in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in Spanish. Designed for highly motivated students, it moves at an accelerated pace with a focus on fluency, cultural understanding, and preparation for AP Spanish.

Content:

  • Extensive review and expansion of vocabulary and grammar, including all verb tenses and idiomatic expressions.
  • In-depth study of cultural topics and connections to Spanish-speaking countries and their customs.
  • Emphasis on authentic communication through:
    • Reading authentic Spanish texts.
    • Listening to native speakers through audio and video sources.
    • Writing formal compositions and essays.
  • Engaging in extemporaneous speaking and formal presentations.

Homework: Students should expect to spend 2-3 hours per week on homework, including vocabulary and grammar review, reading, listening comprehension, and writing assignments.

Course Fees / Materials: $75.00 for online platform.

Note: Students may earn 5 university credits from University of Washington’s College in the High School program. The university credit grade will be based on chapter tests, midterms, finals, and an oral interview.
