Learning Recommendations: Successful completion of Spanish 3 CHS (UW Spanish 103) or equivalent. Students should demonstrate strong proficiency in Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and communication.

General Description: Spanish 4 CHS is a College in the High School (CHS) course aligned with the University of Washington’s Spanish 201 curriculum. This course offers motivated students the opportunity to earn high school and college credit simultaneously while advancing their Spanish language skills. Conducted entirely in Spanish, the class focuses on refining reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. It provides a rigorous learning experience that mirrors college-level expectations while allowing students to remain engaged in a high school setting.

Content: Students will explore topics and themes including:

  • Skills, Talents, and Emotions: Describe personal qualities, emotions, and abilities.
  • Future Planning: Discuss future goals, careers, and time management, and predict outcomes.
  • Professional Preparation: Prepare for job interviews, create video résumés, and explore higher education and new technologies.
  • Communication Skills: Use the subjunctive to give advice, express wishes, and discuss needs and complaints.
  • Work and Environment: Debate industry impacts on the environment, discuss consumerism, and solve problems.
  • Analytical Tasks: Compare data, produce reports, and write manifestos.

Homework: Students should expect homework 3–4 nights per week, including online assignments, grammar and vocabulary exercises, and project preparation.

Course Fees / Materials: $75.00 for online platform.

Note: Students may earn 5 university credits from University of Washington’s College in the High School program. The university credit grade will be based on chapter tests, midterms, finals, and an oral interview.
