Learning Recommendations: Completion of Japanese 2 with a grade of C- or higher. Regular use of flashcards or online resources for daily vocabulary practice is recommended. Active participation in class, including speaking Japanese, is essential for success.

General Description: Japanese 3 CHS is a year-long course designed to build on Japanese 2, enhancing students’ Japanese communication skills in real-life contexts. This course broadens vocabulary, grammar, and kanji proficiency, with a focus on conversational skills across various social scenarios. Students will deepen their understanding of Japanese culture, people, and communication styles and may complete special projects for cultural exploration.

  • Japanese athletic events and social issues
  • Giving and following directions
  • Descriptions of people and relationships
  • Japanese high school life and cultural comparisons
  • Traditional Japanese folk tales and entertainment
  • Architecture, housing, and transportation in Japan
  • Japanese cooking and culinary preferences
  • Use of plain, masculine, and feminine speech
  • Proverbs and blood type personality theories

Homework: Students should expect to spend 2-3 hours per week on homework, including worksheets, diaries, and project preparation. Major assignments may include a social issues presentation or a movie project.

Course Fees / Materials: None

Note: Students may earn 5 university credits from Cascadia College’s College in the High School program. The university credit grade will be based on chapter tests, midterms, finals, and an oral interview.
