IB Japanese SL - FO660A/B

Learning Recommendations: Completion of Japanese 3 or equivalent is required. Students should have strong study skills, an advanced understanding of kanji, and a solid grasp of both simple and complex tenses.

General Description: IB Japanese SL is a yearlong course designed to develop advanced proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening for students preparing for the IB Japanese Standard Level exam. The course is taught almost exclusively in Japanese, fostering a highly immersive environment where students can communicate effectively without relying on English. This course encourages linguistic growth and cultural understanding, making it suitable for students aiming to strengthen their Japanese skills.

Content:

  • Thematic units on Japanese culture, literature, and current events
  • Development of conversational skills through essays, discussions, and oral presentations
  • Analysis of various media, including literature, art, and film
  • Study of an additional 100-150 kanji
  • Practice interviews and live presentations

Homework: Approximately 3-4 hours per week, focusing on reading, writing, and kanji study.

Course Fees / Materials: IB exam fee required. Students should bring a spiral notebook. Financial assistance for exam fees is available through the ASB bookkeeper or counselor.
