Learning Recommendations:  Application required (IHS only). Successful completion of Yearbook.

General Description: In this year-long, second year course, students will advance the yearbook journalism and computer skills they learned the first year. Their primary job remains to be the creation of the yearbook. The fundamentals of yearbook journalism are emphasized to a greater degree. Skills include creating aesthetically pleasing layouts, using enhancing graphics, and effective color use. Integral to the continuing student's role is developing and carrying out a theme that suits the school year. Additional responsibilities include planning the yearbook ladder, and leadership is an expected role for Yearbook 2 students. This can manifest in editorial positions and/or mentoring new staff members.

Content: 

  • Layout and design using Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop software
  • Writing copy, captions, and headlines
  • Libel and copyright issues
  • Digital Photography
  • Publicity

Homework: Students will be required to attended selected school events including but not limited to sporting events, concerts, club meetings, and spirit week events.

Equipment to be provided by Student: None. All equipment provided.

Note: This course counts as a fine art credit for graduation but may not meet the four-year college admissions requirement for Fine/Visual/Performing Arts.
