Learning Recommendations: Completion of Technical Theatre or equivalent experience is recommended.

General Description: Advanced Technical Theatre offers students an in-depth look at the technical side of theatre production, focusing on what happens backstage. Through hands-on activities, students explore rigging, property design, set construction, lighting, sound, and stage management. This course provides opportunities for practical experience, such as lighting design for concerts, stage managing school productions, and working with professional theatre companies. It is designed to prepare students for careers in technical theatre and related fields.

  • Scenic and costume construction
  • Lighting, rigging, and stage management
  • Careers in technical theatre and related fields

Homework: Occasional observational, reading, or research assignments may be required. Most work is completed during class, but some outside-of-class hours may be necessary for practical experience.

Course Fees / Materials: Course fees may apply.

Equipment to be provided by Student: Appropriate clothing for class work involving painting, sawdust, etc.

Note: This course counts as a Fine Art credit for graduation but does not meet the four-year college admissions requirement for Fine/Visual/Performing Arts.
