Bridge to Algebra 1 - MT099A/B

Learning Recommendations: Teacher recommendation is advised. This course is designed for students who would benefit from strengthening pre-algebra skills and concepts taught in middle school in preparation for Algebra content the following year.

General Description: This year-long course strengthens students' foundational mathematical skills necessary for success in future Algebra courses. Designed to help students who encountered difficulty with math in middle school, Bridge to Algebra 1 reteaches core math knowledge and skills from the 6th through 8th grade. This course prepares students to be stronger math learners who are ready for high school math courses.

Content: Critical areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Improving number sense and computational fluency with integers, fractions and decimals
  • Order of Operations
  • Understanding and manipulating algebraic expressions
  • Solving 2 - 3 step equations
  • Interpreting functions in context
  • The Coordinate System

Homework: This course focuses on active learning during class.  Students who attend regularly and practice good time management will have minimal assigned homework.  Students will be provided resources to reinforce or accelerate learning at home.
