Learning Recommendations: This course is designed for students to take after completing Math 3, Bridge to Algebra, or 8th grade on-standard math courses in other districts.  Students who received a C+ or below in Math 3 or have struggled in math previously are strongly encouraged to enroll concurrently in Algebra 1 Lab or consider enrolling in Intensified Algebra in lieu of this course.

General Description: Algebra 1 builds students’ understanding of the first year of algebra standards.  In this course,  students experience algebra as a coherent, useful subject that makes sense of real-life problem situations.  Students will learn how to model real-world problems and solve related problems. Content: Critical areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Linear Equations and Inequalities
  • Analyzing and Describing Function Characteristics
  • Understanding Linear, Exponential, Absolute Value, and Quadratic Functions
  • Performing Operations with Polynomials
  • Solving Quadratic Equations
  • Descriptive Statistics

Homework: Homework is assigned almost every night and can vary between 10-35 minutes, depending on the student's math knowledge and class time usage. Daily practice is emphasized to solidify learning. Homework is intended for practice and feedback.
