Intensified Algebra 1 - MT102A/B

Learning Recommendations: Recommended for students successfully completing pre-Algebra, earning a C+ or below in Math 3 mathematics and/or scoring below 3.00 on the SBA. This 2-period block course is designed for students with gaps in their pre-algebra skills or who need additional support learning Algebra.

General Description: Intensified Algebra 1 is a 2-period block class.  This course provides an alternative curriculum for Algebra 1, Intensified Algebra by Agile Minds.  This curriculum is designed to help students who have had difficulty in previous math courses.  This class provides instruction and guided practice over 2 periods. Additionally, this course provide students with additional teacher support while learning new skills, and reinforce past math skills.   One goal of the course is to help each students learn how to learn math, resulting in greater confidence in their ability to continue into future math courses. Students earn Algebra 1 credit for Intensified Algebra and elective credit for Intensified Algebra 1 Lab.

Content:

  • Relationships between quantities and reasoning with equations
  • Linear & exponential relationships
  • Descriptive statistics
  • Expressions and equations
  • Quadratic functions and modeling

Homework: Daily coursework not completed in class must be completed at home. The daily coursework can vary up to 35 minutes, depending on the student's math knowledge and class time usage. The intent of daily coursework is for practice and feedback, not necessarily for assessing skill. Students typically review the daily coursework in class the next day.
