Business Algebra - MT410A/B

Prerequisites: Must have completed Algebra 2 or Advanced Algebra 2 prior to taking this class.

Learning Recommendations: Passed Algebra 2 or Advanced Algebra 2.

General Description: This course is designed for students who wish to continue their math learning; this course focuses on advanced algebra applications to business and social sciences.

This course is aligned with college pathways and college business math courses such as Math 138 at Bellevue College or Math 111 at the University of Washington, though is not offered for college credit. It meets NCAA requirements and 4th year quantitative course requirements for college entrance (CADRs).

Content:

  • Critical Thinking/Problem Solving
  • Quantitative/Symbolic Reasoning
  • Composing, and manipulating functions represented as graphs, tables, and formulas.
  • Analyzing and applying linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions.
  • Setting up, solving, and analyzing significant applied problems selected from systems of linear equations, or finance mathematics, or linear programming.
  • Applying tools and techniques of introductory probability and statistics selected from the following list: sets, Venn diagrams, tree diagrams, the multiplication principle, permutations, combinations, measures of central tendency, measures of variation, histograms, and boxplots.

Homework: Daily coursework not completed in class must be completed at home. The daily coursework can vary up to 30 minutes, depending on the student's math knowledge and class time usage. The intent of daily coursework is for practice and feedback, not necessarily for assessing skill. Students typically review the daily coursework in class the next day.
