AP Pre-Calculus - MT603A/B

Prerequisites: Students must complete Advanced Algebra 2 or Bridge to Pre-Calculus prior to taking this course.

Learning Recommendations: Students who find the most success in Pre-Calculus earned a B or better in Advanced Algebra 2 or Bridge to Pre-Calculus. Students who earned below a B in Advanced Algebra 2 are encouraged to take Bridge to Pre-Calculus prior to Pre-Calculus to strengthen their skills and preparation for Pre-Calculus, and if they earned a C or below they are strongly advised to enroll in Bridge to Pre-Calculus.

Students who took Algebra 2 must enroll in Bridge to Pre-Calculus prior to taking Pre-Calculus.

General Description: This course provides an in-depth study of polynomial, power, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. It prepares students for college-level calculus and other advanced mathematics courses. This course aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in calculus and other higher-level math courses, ensuring they are well-prepared for college entrance exams and future academic challenges.

Content:

  • Analyzing functions
  • Parent functions and transformations
  • Characteristics of polynomial, power, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions
  • Applications of trigonometric and circular functions
  • Triangle Trigonometry
  • Trigonometric properties, identities, and proofs
  • Systems of equations and matrices
  • Conic sections
  • Introduction to limits and continuity

Homework: Daily coursework not completed in class must be completed at home. The daily coursework can vary up to 40 minutes, depending on the student's math knowledge and class time usage. The intent of daily coursework is for practice and feedback, not necessarily for assessing skill. Students typically review the daily coursework in class the next day.
