AP Statistics - MT605A/B

Prerequisites: Must have completed Algebra 2 or Advanced Algebra 2 prior to taking this class.

Learning Recommendations:  Completion of Algebra 2 or Advanced Algebra 2 is required. It is recommended that students selecting AP Statistic received a B+ or better in Algebra 2 or Advanced Algebra 2 or have completed Bridge to Pre-Calculus or Pre-Calculus. This course includes more writing that a typical math course so strong writing skills are recommended.

General Description: AP Statistics introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. The course follows the College Board's curriculum and covers four broad conceptual themes: exploring data, sampling and experimentation, anticipating patterns, and statistical inference. It prepares students for the AP Statistics exam, offering the opportunity to earn college credits.

College Credit: Students may take the AP test at the end of this course. Colleges may award credit to students passing the AP test. Students should verify the specific policy regarding AP Statistics credits at their colleges of interest.

Content:

  • Applications of statistics in real life
  • Data collection and analysis techniques to validate research questions
  • Analysis and interpretation of graphical displays
  • Summarization of bivariate data including correlation and best-fit-line
  • Basic properties and patterns of probability
  • Variability and distributions of samples
  • Hypothesis testing
  • Comparing treatment groups
  • Analyzing categorical data and conducting goodness-of-fit tests

Homework: Nightly practice problems, typically taking 15 to 45 minutes depending on the student and topic. Emphasis on small daily doses of practice to solidify learning. Homework quizzes to assess understanding and application of concepts.
