Concert Band - MU100A/B

Learning Recommendations: Successful completion of at least two years in school band or equivalent private instruction experience.

General Description: Concert Band is a year-long elective focused on the musical and technical development of students in brass and woodwind (and percussion – if no Percussion Ensemble class is offered) instruments. It includes extensive performance opportunities, requiring commitment to concerts, contests, festivals, and community events. Participation in marching and pep bands, as well as some before or after-school practices, is required.

Content: 

  • Perform a range of high school-level concert band literature
  • Develop ensemble and rehearsal techniques
  • Study music theory and history related to performance pieces
  • Participate in group rehearsals and perfect sight-reading skills

Homework: Recommended 30 minutes individual practice per day as needed, depending on individual student goals and performance schedules.

Course Fees / Materials: Course fees may apply. Additional uniform fee if needed. ASB card required for performances. Instrument rental available for large instruments; repair fees apply. Concert attire purchase may be necessary; inquire with director.
