Learning Recommendations: Admission is by audition or invitation from the director. Audition materials align with Evergreen Philharmonic requirements but have adjusted tempo standards. Membership by audition only, based on musical ability, instrumentation needs, and student dedication.

General Description: Chamber Orchestra is a year-long elective for advanced string players focused on classical repertoire and advanced ensemble techniques. This course prioritizes high-level rehearsal and performance preparation for school, community, and festival events. Students are expected to be fully committed to all orchestra activities and attend some out of class rehearsals as needed.

Content: 

  • Classical repertoire at advanced high school levels
  • Ensemble and sectional rehearsal techniques
  • Music theory and historical context related to selected pieces
  • Preparation for performances, contests, and festivals

Homework: Approximately one hour of individual practice per night, with private practice supplementing orchestra assignments. 

Course Fees / Materials: Course fee of $50 for transportation and method book. $25 uniform fee may apply. ASB card. Concert attire and instrument rental fees may apply. Celli and basses are available for school use; students provide their own for home practice.
