Learning Recommendations: Completion of two or more years of band or equivalent private instruction. Admission by audition.

General Description: Wind Ensemble is a year-long elective for advanced brass, and woodwind (and percussion – if no Percussion Ensemble class is offered) students focusing on high-level performance and technical refinement. As the capstone band in the district curriculum, the ensemble provides opportunities for performance in concerts, contests, assemblies, parades, and community events. Membership is determined by audition and considers musical ability, prior experience, and instrumentation needs. Participation in marching and pep bands, as well as some before or after-school practices, is expected.

Content: 

  • Performance of diverse and advanced band literature
  • Emphasis on tone quality, articulation, and stylistic versatility
  • Advanced music notation and vocabulary
  • Ensemble and rehearsal techniques specific to high-level concert settings

Homework: Recommended 30 minutes individual practice per day as needed, depending on individual student goals and performance schedules.

Course Fees / Materials: Course fees may apply. ASB card required. Concert attire and instrument rental fees may apply.
