Learning Recommendations: Students should have medium – to-advanced music-reading skills and snare drum skills/techniques. Percussion ensemble students should have completed two to three years of middle school percussion instruction or equivalent private instruction

General Description: Percussion Ensemble is a year-long course for students with prior experience in band or music. The course provides opportunities to perform in both small and large percussion ensembles and serve as the percussion section for Concert Band and Wind Ensemble. Students also participate in the high school drumline for marching band and basketball games. Each student will undergo an initial skill assessment to create an individualized improvement plan.

Content: 

  • Perform in various percussion ensembles, including small groups and full ensembles
  • Serve as percussionists for Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble
  • Rehearse and perform a range of percussion styles for school and community events
  • Develop advanced percussion techniques and ensemble coordination

Homework: Recommended 30 minutes individual practice per day as needed, depending on individual student goals and performance schedules.

Course Fees / Materials: Course fees may apply. Additional uniform fee if needed. ASB card required. Instrument rental available with maintenance fees for large instruments.
