Learning Recommendations: Successful completion of three or more years of orchestra or equivalent private instruction. No audition required.

General Description: String Orchestra is a year-long elective for string players with several years of experience, focusing on ensemble performance and orchestral literature. Students will participate in mandatory concerts, festivals, and community events, with occasional before and after school rehearsals. The class includes instruction in music theory and history as relevant to the repertoire.

Content: 

  • Performance of intermediate high school-level string literature
  • Ensemble rehearsal techniques
  • Introduction to music theory and historical context

Homework: Individual practice of 30-60 minutes daily, with private practice supplementing orchestra assignments.

Course Fees / Materials: Course fee of $50 may apply for transportation and method book. $25 uniform fee may apply. ASB card. Concert attire and instrument rental fees may apply. Celli and basses are available for school use; students provide their own for home practice.
