Learning Recommendations: Completion of Naval Science 1 is required.

General Description: Naval Science 2 builds on the foundational skills and knowledge of Naval Science 1, further developing leadership, citizenship, and teamwork within the NJROTC program. This course includes advanced instruction in naval history, seamanship, meteorology, and survival skills, along with career exploration in naval fields. Students participate in military drills and leadership labs and may engage in NJROTC teams and field trips, including visits to Navy installations. Designed for students in good academic standing, this course emphasizes leadership, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation of the Navy’s role in national defense.

Content: 

  • Principles of leadership, citizenship, and discipline in the naval context
  • Advanced naval topics: seamanship, meteorology, survival skills, and naval weaponry
  • Military drill and leadership lab activities, including drill team and Color Guard
  • Exploration of naval history, career paths, and naval opportunities
  • Involvement in NJROTC teams: orienteering, marksmanship, cyber security, academic, and more

Homework: Primarily in-class learning with some project work; occasional out-of-class activities.
