Learning Recommendations: Completion of Naval Science 1Naval Science 2 and Naval Science 3 is required.

General Description: Naval Science 4 is the capstone course in the NJROTC program, exclusively for seniors who have advanced through the prior courses. This yearlong class emphasizes practical leadership, placing students in supervisory roles within the NJROTC program. Students are responsible for guiding their peers, managing activities, and applying leadership skills such as motivation, evaluation, and problem-solving. The course continues to cover advanced naval topics and leadership labs, fostering self-reliance and a deepened understanding of citizenship and national defense.

Content: 

  • Advanced leadership principles, including supervision, setting an example, and problem-solving
  • Management and oversight of NJROTC teams and activities
  • Military drill and inspection leadership, including Color Guard and drill teams
  • Applied study of naval history, navigation, and fitness as they relate to leadership roles
  • Development of communication and motivational skills through practical applications

Homework: Minimal, with most learning and project work completed in class; some outside activities for leadership responsibilities may be required.
