Learning Recommendations: Highly recommend completion of Biology or Chemistry with a grade of B or better. Ability to read content and handle the volume of reading geared to a college-level course

General Description: This year-long laboratory course focuses on the detailed study of human anatomy and physiology, designed for students with high ability and interest. It meets the description of a lab-based science course for college entrance requirements as outlined by the Washington Student Achievement Council. The course covers various aspects of human biology, emphasizing the structure and function of the human body, and includes hands-on experiences such as dissections and model building.

This comprehensive course prepares students for further studies in biomedical sciences and related fields, providing a thorough understanding of human anatomy and physiology through interactive and practical learning experiences.

Content: Students will engage in learning and exploring:

  • Basic biochemistry
  • Tissue types
  • Major organ systems, including:
    • Digestive
    • Respiratory
    • Circulatory
    • Nervous
    • Skeletal/muscular
    • Urinary
    • Integumentary
  • Exploration of the causes and effects of various diseases, both pathogenic and heritable

Homework: Outside work is required for independent research, completion of projects, and occasional homework assignments.

Equipment to be Provided by Student: Goggles

Course Fees: Course fees may apply 

College in the High School: Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who have completed Biology, will have the option to earn 6 university credits for BIO108 at Bellevue College through the College in the High School program. Sign-ups will be in September or October.
