AP Physics C: Mechanics - SC620A/B

Learning Recommendations: Successful completion of Physics. Successful completion of Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus. Concurrent enrollment in AP Calculus AB or above is necessary for success in this course. Competency in graphical analysis software and computer hardware, including probes and sensors. Proficiency in problem solving, lab techniques, and writing

General Description: This year-long, calculus-based physics course covers Newtonian Mechanics and prepares students for the AP Physics C: Mechanics exam. The course is designed for students interested in science or engineering majors and emphasizes multi-step problem solving and critical thinking. Sophisticated technology is embedded within every laboratory experiment. This course meets the descriptions of lab-based and algebra-based science courses for college entrance requirements as outlined by the Washington Student Achievement Council.

AP exam registration occurs in September and October, with fees varying each year. Scholarships are available for those who qualify. College credit may be earned with a passing score on the AP exam, though the score qualification and amount of credit earned vary by college.

AP Physics C: Mechanics offers a rigorous, college-level curriculum that prepares students for further studies in physics and engineering, providing valuable problem-solving and analytical skills through hands-on and technology-driven learning experiences.

Content: Students will actively engage in learning and experiencing the following topics:

  • Measurement
  • Motion in one dimension
  • Vectors
  • Motion in two dimensions
  • Laws of motion
