Learning Recommendations: Successful completion of Biology AND Chemistry (or Chemistry Laboratory Methods). Proficiency in Algebra 1. Proficiency in the use of computer software for word processing and spreadsheets. Strong reading comprehension, text analysis ability, and writing skills. A minimum of 60 minutes daily studying and reviewing outside of class time.

General Description: This course is designed to be the equivalent of an introductory college course in environmental science. The goal of AP Environmental Science is to provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world. Students will learn to identify and analyze environmental problems (both natural and human-made), evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them. Environmental Science is interdisciplinary, encompassing topics from geology, biology, environmental studies, environmental science, chemistry, and geography.

Content: Environmental Science is interdisciplinary and embraces various topics with several unifying themes:

Homework: Students should expect homework at least 3-5 times per multi-week unit. Assignments include practice packets, article readings and analyses, and lab activity investigation write-ups. Beyond written homework, students are expected to spend 30-60 minutes per night reviewing and studying the AP Environmental Science content.

Course Fees / Materials: Course fees may apply.

Additional Information:

AP exam registration occurs in September and October, with fees varying each year. Scholarships are available for those who qualify. College credit may be earned with a passing score on the AP exam, though the score qualification and amount of credit earned vary by college.

AP Environmental Science offers a rigorous, college-level curriculum that challenges students and prepares them for further studies in environmental science and related fields. Through hands-on and technology-driven learning experiences, students will develop valuable problem-solving and analytical skills.
