Honors World History (Block) - SS125A/B

Learning Recommendations: It is strongly recommended, but not required, that students have at least a B+ in their current Social Studies class. Students should be prepared for increased depth in reading and writing assignments. This course is taught in a block with Honors Literary Analysis & Composition 1 (Block).

General Description: Honors World History year-long Social Studies course that is a study of the geography, politics, economics, society, social changes, and history of the world while integrating with the 9th grade English curriculum. This course explores world history from approximately 1450-1950. The course focuses on critical thinking, essay writing, note taking, research, and other relevant skills. Honors offers more in-depth analysis and discussion skills in preparation for future advanced Social Studies coursework.

Content: The course covers the following topics:

  • Patterns of Geography and Trade
  • Revolutions
  • Imperialism and Resistance
  • World War I
  • The Interwar Years
  • World War II

Homework: Students should expect 2-3 nights of homework per week, which may include reading, research projects, and writing assignments to maintain the course's rigorous standards.
