General Description: AP European History is a year-long course designed to prepare students for the AP European History exam. Equivalent to an introductory college course in European History, this course covers European history since the Renaissance. It introduces students to cultural, economic, political, and social developments that have played a fundamental role in shaping the modern world. The course enhances students' understanding through a combination of factual knowledge and analytical skills.

Content: The course covers European history in four chronological periods from 1450 to the present:

• The Renaissance and Exploration (1450-1648): Cultural rebirth and global exploration.
• The Age of Reformation and Religious Wars (1648-1815): Changes in religious and political thought and conflicts.
• The Long 19th Century (1815-1914): Industrialization, revolution, and nation-building.
• The 20th Century and Beyond (1914-present): World wars, Cold War, and contemporary Europe.

Homework: Students should expect to spend 3-4 hours per week on homework, primarily reading outside of class.

AP Exam Information: Students must register for the AP exam for this course. AP exam fees vary each year, and scholarships are available for students who qualify. Registration takes place in September and October. College credit can be earned with a passing score on the AP exam, though the score required and the amount of credit awarded vary by college.
