IB History SL - SS656A/B

Learning Recommendations: This course is open to all 12th-grade students who have completed U.S. History. It prepares students for the Standard Level (SL) IB History exam in May.

General Description: IB History SL A is the first part of a one-year course that explores 20th-century world history through a comparative and multi-perspective approach. The course emphasizes the development of historical critical analysis skills and encourages students to think historically about global conflicts and their impacts. Students will engage with key historical events and trends that shaped the 20th century, focusing on how conflicts acted as catalysts for change.

Content: The course covers major themes in 20th-century history, including:

  • Authoritarian states of the 20th century, focusing on leaders like Hitler and Castro
  • Causes, practices, and consequences of World War II
  • Origins and impacts of the Cold War, viewed through a global lens with an emphasis on leaders, military crises, and the social and cultural effects

Additional Information: Students are required to pay the IB exam fee to sit for the Standard Level exam. Those concerned about the cost should consult with the ASB bookkeeper or their counselor.
