The Issaquah School Board held a regular meeting Thursday, June 23, at the Issaquah School District Administration Building. The meeting was open to the public, broadcasted live on the ISD YouTube channel, and a recording of the meeting is available.

Following is a summary of a few of the topics the board and district staff discussed and action the board took at the meeting. It is not an official record or meeting minutes. To review official minutes from all board meetings, please visit our board meeting archive webpage.

Board Superintendent Linkage 5E

Superintendent Ron Thiele reflected on the past year with our return to full time in-person learning. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the ISD implemented new school boundaries upon the opening of two new schools: Cedar Trails Elementary and Cougar Mountain Middle School. In addition, we passed three levies this past spring for Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O), Capital and Transportation. While things have not entirely gotten back to a pre-pandemic world, we made it! A motion was made and 5E was unanimously approved.

Citizen Request to Change Boundary from Renton School District to ISD

Superintendent Ron Thiele shared that while boundaries of school districts have existed for a long time, individuals can petition, with a rationale, to change plots of land to a different school district. A neighborhood that is currently in the Renton School District petitioned to join the ISD, in part due to the proximity to schools and the availability of preschool. This change would create an island of ISD surrounded by other homes that are all served by RSD. The request was denied per Resolution 1186, which was unanimously approved by the board.
