The district’s new Capital Projects Oversight Committee met for the first time on March 18. The 26-member committee is a group of professionals and community representatives who will add an additional layer of review and evaluation to the district's management of voter-approved bond and capital levy funds.

During the first meeting, the committee members were invited to share with one another about their areas of expertise, as well as their “why” for volunteering to serve in this position. The group includes retired and current professionals in the fields of business/finance, engineering, construction management, permitting, construction litigation and more. They also include community members with no other ties to the district, parents/caregivers, business owners, one teacher from in district and one teacher from another district, and student representatives. Committee members live in areas representing the south end of the district, the central portion of the district and the north end of the district.

Superintendent Heather Tow-Yick told the committee members she appreciates their willingness to volunteer to help the district be good stewards of taxpayer dollars. “Thank you for being in this group,” Tow-Yick said. “This is about monitoring and supporting us through this day-to-day work. I really just appreciate your time and wisdom here.”

The meeting also served as a starting point for the committee members, providing details about education funding, financial transparency and capital projects. They reviewed documents such as budget status reports, levy status reports, one-pagers and additional project information. Committee members asked for some additional data, and discussed next steps.

The committee will meet again from 5:30-7 p.m. on June 17 at the district office. Meetings are open to the public to observe. For more information, visit our Capital Projects Oversight Committee webpage
