The district's Capital Projects Oversight Committee gathered for a regular meeting on February 11.

Staff members shared a presentation including updates about the New High School project, including the historical timeline, recent design and permitting progress, as well as budget and estimated costs. Committee members also had the chance to hear from the project manager with Skanska USA, and the architect for the project from Bassetti Architects.

Committee members heard other recent updates and general information about the project, including:

  • The district submitted a Major Amendment application to the city in July, which was unanimously approved in November by the City Development Commission.
  • An appeal was filed in early December; that appeal was heard by a Hearing Examiner and dismissed on February 6.
  • We anticipate starting construction in March and opening the school in August of 2027.
  • The New High School site is about 40 acres, and will serve about 700 students.
  • Plans call for 26 classrooms including five pathway labs, three science labs, one large classroom and flex lab, one large hub (commons), one innovation hub, multiple collaborative learning hubs and studios, outdoor learning spaces, a library, research and design lab, and a student market.
  • A multipurpose field with track, a parking garage, site improvements and right-of-way (street) improvements are also planned.

The committee will meet again on May 12.
