The district’s new Capital Projects Oversight Committee met for the second time on June 17. The 26-member committee is made up of volunteers from relevant industries and community representatives who add an additional layer of review and evaluation to the district's management of voter-approved bond and capital levy funds.

Director of Capital Projects Tom Mullins shared in-depth information about two projects: The Holly Street Early Learning Center Playground and the Creek Bank Repairs project. Members of the committee asked follow-up questions about the two projects, and offered recommendations about how to share additional information with the public for these and other levy-funded projects. Committee members engaged in a robust discussion, raising questions and offering direct feedback on both the project details and how the district communicates about levy-funded projects work. Several members emphasized the need for clear, consistent public communication, particularly with regard to project progress, budgeting, and community impact.

Committee members reviewed documents such as budget status reports, levy status reports, one-pagers and additional project information. Mullins also offered updates about the construction market and the New High School project.

The committee will meet again from 5:30-7 p.m. on September 16 at the district office. Meetings are open to the public to observe. For more information, visit our Capital Projects Oversight Committee webpage
