District Seeks Pro/Con Committee Members for Possible February 11 Election

General Announcement Icon for Announcements

The Issaquah School District may have a Safety and Security and Construction Bond on the February 11 ballot. The next School Board meeting is on December 12.

If the School Board decides to place a measure on the ballot for February 2025, the district is required to file with King County Elections on December 13. If the board approves a resolution to place a bond on the ballot, the measure will fund:

  • The most immediate safety and security updates for all schools.
  • Projects to address overcrowding at the high school level, including:
    • Increase square footage at Liberty High School.
    • Start construction of the New High School.

As part of the election process, King County requires the district to appoint committee members to prepare pro and con statements regarding any bond measure. This would have to happen by December 17 and would be made official after an approved School Board resolution. All of this is being prepared under a very tight timeline, following regulations, ensuring transparency and adhering to the strict schedule required to meet election timeline mandates.

The King County Voter’s Pamphlet will contain pro (supporting) and con (against) statements and rebuttals. As a group, the Pro Committee will write a pro statement of up to 250 words and a 75-word rebuttal to the Con Committee statement. The Con Committee will write a 250-word statement in opposition to the ballot measure and a 75-word rebuttal to the Pro Committee’s statement. All committee members must be residents of the Issaquah School District. Each committee may have three members.

The deadlines for statements and rebuttals are as follows:

  • Pro/Con Statements Due to King County: December 17, 2024
  • Rebuttal Statements: December 19, 2024

There will be two committees created. The committee members are responsible for writing statements in favor or in opposition to the measures. Both will appear in the King County voters’ pamphlet. There is a limit of three members per committee, but committees may seek input from others to develop a statement.

Those interested in applying for one of the committee positions should submit their name, address, email and phone number, as well as a brief statement about why you would like to serve on one of the committees. Please apply by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, by submitting an email of interest to Chief of Finance and Operations Martin Turney at turneym@issaquah.wednet.edu.
