Why the levy measures matter

Local levy dollars fill the gap between what the state and federal government fund and what it actually costs to run our schools. For example, the district must use about $9.5 million each year to cover legally required special education services that the state does not fully fund — an amount that continues to grow.

What’s on the ballot

The three renewal measures are designed to keep the projected combined tax rate stable at about $3.09 per $1,000 of assessed value. They include:

Prop. 1. Renewal Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy

Funds about 16.6% of the district’s annual budget, supporting many positions and programs such as:

  • Student well-being services (counseling, nursing, behavior supports, security, equity programs, VOICE Mentors, athletics and activities)
  • Academic opportunities (7-period high school day, dual language, individual learning supports, Gibson Ek, Special Education)
  • Daily operations (teachers, substitutes, custodians, transportation and maintenance staff)

Prop. 2. Renewal Capital Levy: Technology & Critical Repairs

Supports learning, safety, and aging school buildings through investments such as:

  • 1:1 laptops for students, cybersecurity upgrades, crisis alert system, device replacement and AI for education
  • Critical repairs to roofs, HVAC, safety systems, food service equipment and sports fields
  • Secure entrance vestibules at all three comprehensive high schools

Prop. 3. Transportation (School Bus) Levy

A one-year levy supporting safe, reliable transportation through:

  • Bus fleet modernization, which will help reduce maintenance costs across the fleet of 170 vehicles
  • Expansion of the district’s electric bus pilot and charging infrastructure (we currently have three electric buses, which were purchased using grant funds)
