February Election: Fast Facts, Answers to Common Questions
Registered voters should have received their ballots last week for the updated February 11 school bond, which will fund projects at every school site for safety and security, along with easing overcrowding at the high school level. Proposition 1 would maintain the district's current combined tax rate, and is 63% smaller than the November measure, which did not pass.
In order to pass, the bond requires a 60% supermajority. It also needs to meet the state's validation requirements, which call for the voter turnout to match or exceed 40% of the voters who cast ballots in the previous General Election. As of Thursday, King County Elections ballot return statistics report that 7,386 (less than 10%) of the district's 75,786 registered voters had returned their ballots. In the November election, about 60,000 voters from our district cast a ballot; in order to meet validation requirements, the measure will need about 24,000 votes cast.
